It’s not the Law of Attraction that “works” or “doesn’t work” – it’s us.
The Law of Attraction is real – millions of people can back that up with their own stories, big and small. But for some of us, things don’t seem to quite work out the way they’re supposed to. After following all the recommended steps, visualizing, opening heart and mind, and even detaching…nothing happens. This is because many of us harbor subconscious resistance.
Many of us dealing with this issue already know that we are suffering from blockages.
However, some people don’t, so here it is, laid out plain and simple: you’re being held back by resistance.
You can clear and overcome the resistance, blockage, and barriers you face while practicing the Law of Attraction.
You want to do this because the second you figure out what’s holding you back from receiving, you will start to work through it. Eventually, you’ll knock that wall straight down. Your manifestations will start flowing to you easily, like a downwards stream, once you’ve removed the rocks from your path.
Resistances are often subconscious. Because of this, you may be reading this and saying, “No, that’s not me. I totally believe. It’s just not working.”
Give this method a chance before throwing your hands up and giving up on the universe.
There is no such thing as the Law of Attraction “working” or “not working” – what works or doesn’t work, is us.
The universal law is ubiquitous, it surrounds us, it’s in our every cell. Some of us are choosing to tap into that power.
When you understand that “It” is there regardless of whether you use it or not and that what’s holding you back from attracting is resistance, you will start to realize that you are giving the universe two jobs: to get you what you want, and also what you’re afraid of.
The first resistance is fear.
“Fear is only inverted faith: it is faith in evil instead of good.”
– Florence Scovel Shinn
There’s a Cherokee Legend that I love, a tale about two wolves. An old Cherokee man teaches his grandson that there is a fight between two wolves inside all of us.
One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, self-pity, resentment, and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, kindness, truth, and faith. The grandson asks his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” and the grandfather replies: “The one you feed.”
An example of fear holding us back: You really want a promotion at work. You take all the steps to attract the better job, but deep down, you are afraid that you don’t really deserve it, or that someone else is better suited than you.
Or, many people may be held back by the fear of more success or extra money because they were taught that money is evil or that only bad people have wealth.
Once you clear out those fears, you will be unstoppable, and the best way to stop being afraid is to face your fear.
Whenever you decide to face your fear, it usually disappears before you even get the chance to do it.
Walk up to the lion, and it cowers. Run away, and it hunts you.
Continuing with the example before – the way you face your fear in this situation is by writing down all the reasons why YOU deserve the promotion.
Write the reasons down repeatedly until you believe no one is better suited for the position than you. Talk about all the reasons why you deserve this promotion, often.
You could also really face the fear by approaching your higher up about the promotion and asking about it – just do what will make you feel safe, and what will create powerful belief in you.
If you have a fear of attaining success and more money – which is MUCH more common than you would think- then you need to start teaching yourself that money and success can be powerful agents of good.
Do this by writing down the ways that you could potentially improve your life with extra money. Next, note the ways that you could improve others’ lives with more money.
Research charities you would donate to or causes you would fund.
Give generously – the more happily you give, the more will come to you, and the more happiness you will be able to spread.
A second blockage is worry.
This is so important that I made a whole video about it, and you can watch it here if you haven’t yet.
Worrying is a blockage because it puts us in the position of worrying about the negative aspect of everything. For example, if you’re asking for an A grade on a test, worrying about it will create anxious, desperate vibes. The focus will be on the worry that you will not get a good grade instead of on that big red A+.
When you feel anxious about whether or not what you’re getting is manifesting, stop yourself and think – “Does worrying fix anything? Nope. But letting go does.”
Take a deep breath or do breathing exercises and release the anxiety.
Send out a clear, positive intention that you trust that what you asked for will manifest.
You can follow the release of anxiety with affirmations, which will calm you on a deeper level.
Often, resistances are subconscious. We don’t understand that we are fearful, worried, or have doubt until we really sit down and analyze our minds to find out what’s holding us back.
Ignoring these resistances won’t work because they fight back. If you have discovered that you’re having trouble attracting because of some sort of barrier holding you back, you must work through it in order to be successful at attracting.
How do I identify my resistance?
The way to identify a resistance is to first think about what it is you’re trying to attract. Now, consider all the negative aspects of that desire: How will going to the university you want affect your parents, or your friends, or your relationship? Will being famous strip you from your private life? How will becoming a world traveler affect your finances? Whatever it is, think of the negative side of it.
Understand that no matter how positive you’ve been trying to be, if your desire isn’t manifesting, it’s because the subconscious is caught up on the negative things that could happen if you receive what you asked for.
How do I work through these barriers?
You can work through these subconscious negative thoughts by reinterpreting them and transforming them into positive thoughts. Transform the things holding you back into an empowering belief in order to shift to a higher vibration and a better mood.
Over time, that reinterpretation will begin to rewire the way that you think, even subconsciously.
Here’s how to do it: Let’s say that I want to attract a new boyfriend. I’ve visualized my ideal man, Acted As If I already have it, and detached from the desire. It’s now been months, and I have yet to meet a new partner. I consider that I may be resisting a new relationship, so I sit down and think about the negative aspects of meeting someone.
I write down:
- I’m not really ready to be in anything serious.
- He may hurt me like past loves have.
- My friends are all single. I’ll let them down if I get into a new relationship.
The next step is to reinterpret these negative beliefs into positive ones, so I write:
- I am ready to become whole and healed so that I can be prepared when I meet my new partner in divine timing.
- This new love will be better than all the rest. He will love me, cherish me, and not take me for granted. He will be loyal and good to me.
- My friends will be so happy that I’ve met someone so good for me.
Don’t you feel better already? I know I do. 🙂
Repeat these and keep working through more resistances if needed. Not only is it a great vibration-raising exercise, it can also really change the way you look at things.
What resistances have you encountered?
